Snow Engineering is a research field that is faced to real nature and environmental and it aims harmonize human activity and nature. Recent years, climate change has been actualized in world wide, then, drought, concentrated heavy rain and heavy snowfall have occurred here and there. Snow Engineering VII highlights these issues and we are seeking to provide a new approach to the relationship between real nature and human activities. We are looking forward to seeing you at Fukui in a calm and beautiful season.

Mikuni Festival |
Maruoka Castle Maruoka Castle (nationally important cultural property) was constructed in 1576 by Shibata Katsutomi, the nephew of Shibata Katsuie. This donjon structure, with two walls and three levels, is a watchtower donjon that functioned as a residence for the lord. It is the oldest structure of its kind in Japan. In spring, some 400 Someiyoshino cherry trees bloom in all their glory under the castle, which is listed under the 100 most beautiful cherry-blossom viewing sites in Japan. |
Mikuni FireWorks Festival Reputed to be the biggest fireworks festival in Hokuriku, Mikuni Fireworks Festival is held on August 11th at Mikuni Sunset Beach. Among the splendid fireworks, above all, those fireworks shot off from the surface of the sea are particular to this festival. Visitors from both Fukui and outside of Fukui can share a midsummer night and enjoy the fantasy of the sound and light |

This is one of our cultaral tour programs. A tea ceremony teacher will kindly explain the formal ways to serve the tea, drink the tea and to eat the wagashi (Japanese sweets).

The tea ceremony will be held at the Yokokan garden that was chosen to be the third place Japanese garden in the "Journal of Japanese Gardening" in the USA consecutively for three years.
